Today was my first official meeting for my internship at the Tower Theatre! I’ve been excited about this meeting all week and it was a great way to start this opportunity. The meeting took place in the Tower’s office building that I didn’t know existed. It was a cozy office building above one of the furnishing stores downtown, which I learned used to be an apartment with slanted floors. Somehow this fact made me feel even closer to the Tower. It reminded me how every theatre (even its office buildings) is filled with multiple stories.
As expected, the team was incredibly welcoming and kind. I knew Ray Solley (Executive Director) from previous productions, but today I also met Lisa Vann (Director of Contributed Income), and Shannon Sullivan (Director of Community Engagement). I am so thankful for their willingness to teach and include me. In our meeting, we discussed schedules, goals, and expectations. I gave them some background on my Mastery Project requirements and they told me about their positions at the Tower. I will mainly be working with Lisa, Shannon, and also the crew that controls the sound and lights. The team is incredibly accommodating to my busy schedule, making this process even easier than it was before. They are going to send me meeting dates that I can listen in on if I want to, but my official first day at the Tower will be October 20th. I am going to learn how a show gets ready before the patrons and audience are in the theatre. This meeting was a great kick-off to my internship and I cannot wait to see what comes next!
